Falling Short

Anyone else blink and realize July is gone? I was pretty flabbergasted last week when I turned the page in my Planner to plan the next week, and realized I was in the August spread already 😳

My goal during July was to finish one of the first manuscripts I started writing. I didn’t reach my goal, BUT I did make progress on it. I wrote a few new chapters in the first act of the story. I received some amazing feedback from my peer critique group (thank you ladies, you are all AMAZING!) on a good chunk of the beginning. Also, I’ve got notes for how the second act of the story will go and an idea of where the last act of the story is going. I feel good about all of that. It’s all necessary in the journey to finish the story.

August is the last month in the first quarter of the year in how I’ve set my writing goals. This month will be spent reviewing how the first quarter of the year went. I’ll look at the second quarter months (September, October, and November) and whichever goals weren’t accomplished in the first quarter will be fit somewhere in those months.

I’m excited because these next few months are where the work I put in the last few months is going to pay off. I’ve got a manuscript with notes and ideas that’s ready to be finished, another manuscript that is finished with notes and feedback ready to be revised, and some ideas and starts of stories to write after and potentially use for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November.

How are you all doing with your writing goals? What kind of progress are you making with your stories?

Happy Writing!

  1. A wise, older friend of mine once said, “Keep trying your best to meet your goals and eventually, one day, you’ll realize you’re mostly there.” So, keep writing!
