Day 5-Daily Word Count- 1,732. I had to break from one chapter to the next today. Typically, I try to write one chapter per day, but I had to do it differently. Tomorrow I will continue the chapter I started today. I didn’t know the full motivation for why my main character is doing what she is doing until today. It makes sense now on a deeper level than I realized, and draws on a memory I haven’t thought about in years.
Day 6-Daily Word Count- 1,507. It’s funny, these days feel like they’re flying away beneath my feet this year for NaNoWriMo. I feel like the inciting incident is coming out of nowhere. Also, writing the story and then stopping to research a concept or thing that is unfamiliar to explain it well, eats into the time left at the end of the day to reach the word count and do the story justice. 😳 Definitely leaving myself a trail of comments to go back and add more detail later.
Day 7-Daily Word Count- 1,961. Wrote the inciting incident today. Always a love-hate relationship.
Day 8-Daily Word Count- 1,890. I’m in Act 2 of the story now. I had managed to take some time last week to break down my Act 1 into notes per day and I’d love to find the time to do the same for Act 2. It helped me to keep my pacing and hit the places in the action on the days I wanted to. Hopefully I can manage to do that at some point in the next couple of days.
Day 9-Daily Word Count- 1,977. I did take time today to start writing notes for Act 2. I wrote notes for the next couple of days of Act 2 and the last few days of Act 2. I know what the climax of the story will be, and partially how my characters will get there, but there is more I can’t see yet.
There is SO MUCH more I want to add to the story. Reminding myself that this is just the framework, that I can’t add to it if I don’t have it written first is becoming an hourly mantra as I’m working.
Day 10-Daily Word Count- 1,882. I did some of my writing in the truck tonight, traveling to and from a birthday celebration. I love having Scrivener on my phone so I can access my story wherever I am. I had to troubleshoot the logistics of can my characters do what I think they can do geographically in the time I thought it would take. Turns out, my real world not-so-great navigation skills aren’t so different in trying to plan trips for my fictional characters either. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Day 11-Daily Word Count- 1,455. I broke 20,000 words! This week, especially this weekend, was a bit of a struggle, but it’s done. It’s time to relax, celebrate breaking the 20,000 word mark, and make ready for tomorrow.
How is everyone doing? How’s the writing going?
Happy Writing!
Rock on, Niki! Keep going! We’re so very proud of you!

I’ve never tried writing on my phone other than notes for story ideas! Act 2 is always where I start to struggle but so far my story keeps on trucking… Do you count your outline notes as “words”? (Because you could….)

Having Scrivener on my phone has been awesome for nights when I’m waiting at the dance studio for my oldest or days when we’re on the road and I know I won’t have much time at home to get the word count in. I’m hoping the middle of Act 2 won’t give me too much trouble, but I haven’t started writing today yet. 😳 No, I don’t count the outline notes toward the word count. I didn’t even think about that honestly. But no, I just want to count the story words. We’re almost halfway through! You’re doing AWESOME on your word count!
